Caution
Bold reference numbers in this section identify parts shown in this exploded view diagram. These parts do not appear in the figures near the text.
Removing the clutch cover
Note
For precision purposes, the figures show an engine removed from the frame.

Undo and remove the short screws (5) and the long retaining screws (15) and (18) from the clutch cover (14).
Tap along cover edge with a plastic head mallet to disconnect the cover from the casing.
Remove clutch cover from casing. Take care not to lose the pilot bush (1).
Caution
The clutch cover (14) can be removed complete with clutch housing and primary drive gear.

Remove the O-ring (2) close to the lubrication drill from the casing.
Disassembling the clutch cover
Remove the plug (3) with the O-ring (7), the engine oil pressure sensor (9) with the seal (8) and the plug (16) with the seal (17) from the cover.
Remove the snap ring (13) and withdraw the shim (12) and the seal (11).
The drilled bush (10) is forced onto the cover. Remove with a suitable puller.
Visually check the seal (11) and replace, if necessary.
Remove the above parts to check the seal (6) into the clutch cover, between the clutch housing and the primary gear (Sect. N 6.1, Disassembling the clutch).
Reassembling the clutch cover
If the bush (10) needs to be replaced, fully seat the new bush in the clutch cover with a suitable drift or a press.
If the seal (11) needs to be replaced, fit the new seal into the clutch cover. Its side with no spring should face the snap ring (13).
Before fitting the snap ring, ensure that its seat shows no burrs which might damage the seal.
Fit the shim (12) and the snap ring (13).
Caution
For proper sealing of the seal (11) the snap ring (13) should be free to rotate.
If the seal (6) needs to be replaced, fit the new seal into the clutch cover. Its spring side should face inwards (see figure). Lubricate seal lips with engine oil.
Fit the plug (3) and the O-ring (7). Fit the sensor (9) and the seal (8). Fit the plug (16) and the seal (17).

Refitting the clutch cover
Clean and degrease mating surfaces on clutch cover and casing and ensure that the centring bush (1) and the O-ring (2) close to the lubrication drill are fitted in the casing.
Apply an even solid bead of DUCATI sealing compound onto casing mating surfaces; avoid holes.
Lubricate the seal (6) with engine oil and fit the bush part no. 88700.5665 onto the primary drive gear so not to damage the seal while fitting the cover.
Fit the complete cover (14) onto the casing and fit the retaining screws.
Tighten all the screws (5), (15) and (18) to the specified torque (Sect. C 3, Engine torque settings) following given sequence.
