Removing the rear wheel
Put the motorcycle on the rear service stand and engage the 1
st
gear.
Remove the wheel lock nut clip (1).
Loosen the wheel lock nut (2) with a suitable socket wrench.
Loosen the nut (2) fully and then remove washer (

) and bush (4).
Remove the rear wheel (6) from the vehicle.
Overhauling the rear wheel
Check wheel rim condition.
This wheel rim has no bearings and you will need service shaft part no.
88713.1073
to support it adequately.
Note
The same service shaft is also used to fit the wheel in the balancer.
Overhauling the rear wheel rim
Check the wheel rim as follows:
Visually inspect the rim for cracks, scoring and deformation; change the rim if damaged.
Fit the wheel rim to the service shaft part no.

using the original fasteners.
Using a dial gauge on a suitable mount, measure rim run-out and out-of-round relative to wheel shaft axis (see Sect. C 1.1,
Rear wheel
).
If the values measured are not within the limits, change the rim.
Refitting the rear wheel
Clean the mating surfaces and lubricate the threaded end of the wheel shaft with the recommended grease.
Fit the wheel centring it with shaft and driving pins.
Fit the bush (4) and the washer (
3
) and snug the nut (2) by hand.
Tighten the nut to the specified torque (Sect. C 3,
Frame torque settings
) and make sure that the nut hole is lined up with one of the wheel shaft holes.
If not so, turn the nut slightly to match the holes.
Fit the clip (1) to the nut with the bent end (A) facing the wheel.
Insert the bent end (A) of the clip (1) into the nut hole (2) and the wheel shaft hole.
Push the clip (1) into the nut (2) groove.
